Overview

The after school activities are geared for students in kindergarten through grade 5, in cooperation with the Japanese School of Rotterdam. The activities are divided into 3 sections of 4 weeks throughout the year. During each section the activities are given every Tuesday after school. Students select activities of special interest to them, such as Kids in the Kitchen, Origami, Board Games, Floor Hockey, Arts and Crafts, etc. These groups are led by both AISR and JSR teachers with assistance from the highschool CAS (Creativity, Action & Service) students.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in Young Authors, band and sport programs.

Sports Program

AISR participates in the Northwest European Council of International Schools (NECIS) sport and activity programs. Students can participate competitively against other schools in soccer, volleyball, basketball, swimming, softball, and track and field. There are no try-outs at AISR which simply means that all who would like to take part are encouraged to join a team.

AISR competes in sports with other NECIS schools on four levels: Under 12 years, Under 14 years, Junior Varsity and Varsity. The other schools in this conference are: Antwerp International School, International School of Amsterdam, American School of the Hague, American International School of Luxembourg, International School of Dusseldorf, International School of Hamburg, International School of Stavanger, and Sigtuna International School

Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress in all courses in order to participate in sports. At the end of each school year exceptional students are chosen as AISR's "Athlete of the Year". This honor is not necessarily given to the most talented student, but is given to those individuals who have helped their teams, coaches, and themselves during the year. The school also selects and features an "Athlete of the Week".

Extracurricular offerings include a unique alternative sports program with activities such as canoeing, rock-climbing, mountain biking, archery, horseback riding, golf, snowboarding, sailing, and Project Adventure.

Field Trips

AISR students expand and enrich their classroom studies through field trips. AISR's location within Europe provides the starting point for many educational trips that are planned by both the teachers and students. Classroom teachers integrate course materials and trip destinations to provide meaningful experiences for the students.
