Music at AISR is designed to be inclusive and enjoyable. It is designed to extend the students’ abilities and achievements irrespective of their starting point. Newcomers to music and students who have an established aptitude are equally welcome. Different students have different musical aspirations, and we try to accommodate a wide range of skills and approaches.
AISR has links with other organizations where students can experience the challenge of playing with the best musicians from other institutions.
Extra Curricular The Band ProgramThe school possesses a stock of most band instruments, and students are welcome to make use of it in order to join in with the band program. There are three separate ensembles: a Beginners Band, an Intermediate Band and a High School Band. The Beginners and the Intermediate bands are regularly scheduled as after school activities. Students can join the Beginners Band with little or no experience of their instrument and can use the experience as a place to learn. Students move into the Intermediate band when they have made sufficient progress.
Learning and Playing an InstrumentPlaying a musical instrument is one of the most worthwhile things in life. The windows of perception that are opened by the regular and continual solving of musical and performance problems deepens the individual. Further it affords immeasurable benefits to the individual in terms of development of intelligence, coping with feelings, social skills, perseverance, self-discipline and much more. But, above all, music is attractive and fun to do, and it is human to love music.
We encourage parents to offer their children the opportunity to learn an instrument. We think it is best if parents buy an instrument at an appropriate point in their children’s study program and make contact with a local teacher.
Practice is important for everybody, but different musicians have different practice needs and habits. Your child needs to understand that he or she will make progress in proportion to the amount of effort expended.
