student council

What is the Student Council?

High School Student council is a body which exists to represent the voice of High School students concerning all matters that affect students.  It is a truly democratic institution because everyone may apply for election as an officer or to be a Member-at-Large.

How do I join?

Students from grades 9 to 12 are eligible to participate in the Student Council. The Officers of the Council are elected.  Any student from 9th to 12th Grade may also be a Member-at-Large.  Members-at-Large must attend every meeting, or present apologies for non-attendance, just like the officers, but they have full voting rights.  Further, Members-at-Large may sit in or even run committees, such as the Social and Prom Committee and the Funding Committee. The High School Student Council is therefore a truly democratic institution.  Everyone who chooses may have a voice.  The choice to run for an officer position or to serve as a Member-at-Large must be made within the first few weeks of the year.

The Student Council Cabinet is comprised of the following officers:

  • President – Must come from 11th or 12th Grade
  • Vice-President – Must come from 11th or 12th Grade
  • Treasurer – May come from any grade 9-12
  • Secretary – May come from any grade 9-12
  • Business Associates (4) – Must come from 11th or 12th Grade
  • Cultural and Multi-Level Liaison officer – Must come from 11th or 12th Grade
  • Business Manager – Must come from 11th or 12th Grade

  • the Prom
  • fundraising projects for charity:  this year, we are supporting the charity AMREF Flying Doctors and the READ TO GROW charity and projects that are of a beneficial nature to the AISR family - e.g. raising money to support various programs such as the music program, new sports equipment or library books.
