Global Issues Network Supports The Fun Run
22-05-2008
Sunday, the 18th of May saw the Global Issues
Network Club out and about supporting the schools' Fun Run in aid of JUMP (the
Dutch national children's heart foundation). Not only were the
students attracting attention and support for JUMP, they were at the same time
promoting energy conservation. Senior student Michael can be seen below running
the 3k sponsored run dressed as a shower! The message he was sharing, "Two
minutes less in the shower would save a significant amount of water and energy
consumption." The green t-shirts, now synonymous with the GIN
Club, were worn beautifully by the Club members at their on the spot fashion
show. A fun day for all but with a serious message: "Act before it's too
late - go on, you can make a difference."

Eco Challenger Week at AISR
21-04-2008
The AISR Eco-Challenge Week (April 21st to 25th) sponsored by the Global Issues Network Club (GINC) seeks to promote ways for students and their families to support actions that are environmentally friendly. We highly encourage students and their family members to participate in these events for the whole week, but if it is impossible, we would be happy if you can at least follow through half of the events.
What can YOU do?
Take for example that the week begins with vegetarian day. GIN encourages that students eat at least one vegetarian (meat-free) meal at school or at home. Eating a vegetarian meal can save sufficient water and reduce carbon dioxide emission. We also promote other ways that support sustainability, or the conservation of resources. During the course of this week, the GIN will monitor the activities participants and some students may receive rewards and prizes. Remember to also try and motivate others, for the more the merrier. Keeping in mind that this planet is yours as well as mine, we must work to make this world a better place by being nice to the environment.
Monday, 14th April is Vegetarian Day. Eat at least one vegetarian meals
Tuesday, 15th April is Plastic Day. Bring plastic bottle/bags to school for recycling
Wednesday, 16th April is Darkness Day. Spend one hour in school without electricity
Thursday, 17th April is Green Day. Learn how to be sustainable
Friday, 18th April is Bike to school day. Walk or bike to school, public transportation/car pools are ok.
