Welcome to the High School Dear Parents and High School Students,
Albert Einstein said that education is what remains after you’ve forgotten everything you’ve learned in school. That doesn’t mean that everything you learn or do in school is a waste of time. Maybe, though, it helps to remind us that the reason students enter the AISR building every morning is to try to learn something they won’t forget and the reason why we teachers enter the building is to help the students do that. The reason why I write this here is that it’s so easy to forget why we’re at school each day. School is about learning and learning is also supposed to be fun. But neither learning nor fun can happen without a few rules and guidelines to make all our activities possible for as many people as possible, for as much of the time as possible. So the High School Handbook is designed not only to explain how we normally do things at AISR but also why we do them and, in some cases, what happens when things go wrong. What is in this book will not cover everything that can happen during a busy school year. What we have are the guidelines that you can normally expect. As your faculty and administrators, though, we respect the fact that our students and their families are individuals with individual needs. So we will treat you all in that way and deal with what happens in the way we think is right, according to the best principles of education.
The most important thing to remember, though, is that everyone at our school is here with only one purpose: learning that even Einstein could remember. You, the students, are at the centre of this. One final thing not to forget: whatever is not clear, whatever you need help with, just ask.
At the American International School of Rotterdam, we really all are here to help you. I am so looking forward to working you all in your studies, in athletics, music, drama and whatever else we decide to do together. Let's have a great year.

High School Philosophy
The High School program at AISR is designed so that students can be
successful gaining admittance into university. We are a Global Issues
school that works to develop internationally-minded students who are
active in their local and world communities.
A Community of Respect The American International of Rotterdam is committed to providing a caring, secure, positive and respectful environment in which students can learn and develop as individuals and where adults can help them to do so. AISR's Community of Respect (COR) actively supports all behaviors that enhance learning and support the development of healthy interpersonal relationships.
The Community Of Respect initiative is school-wide and is supported by the High School Co-ordinator, Mr. Chad Van Cleve.
