The
American International School of Rotterdam is a private, co-educational,
college preparatory day school founded in 1959. The school has evolved into a
full PK-12 school that celebrated its first graduating class in the year
2000.In its forty-nine year
history, AISR has proven to be an innovator in multi-cultural education. AISR has
a student body of 215students, with thirty-five
nationalities represented. In 1982, AISR earned the distinction of becoming the
first school in the Netherlands to receive accreditation from the European
Council of International Schools (ECIS). The school is currently accredited by
both ECIS and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). AISR
is also part of the International Educational Center, the first joint effort
between Japan and the United States in a European setting. The language of instruction at AISR is
English, and graduates earn a U.S. High School Diploma. In addition, students
may further elect to pursue the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
program. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed,
or ethnic origin in its admissions policy or in the administration of its
educational programs.

are forty-six professional educators on staff, representing eleven countries.
Approximately forty-two percent are U.S. citizens. Forty-nine percent of the
staff holds a Master’s degree, including one who holds a doctorate.

at AISR reflect the school’s international flavor and diversity. 20% are from
the US, 12% are Japanese, 9% are British, 9% are Dutch, 8% are South Korean,
and 42% are other nationalities.

educational program in the high school is that of a traditional United States college preparatory curriculum. 100% of the graduating seniors have
gone on to post secondary education. The International Baccalaureate Diploma
Program was instituted in 1999. The school operates on a block schedule with
all students taking seven or eight classes. Classes meet approximately 210 minutes per week.
