The American International School of Rotterdam is a private, co-educational, college preparatory day school founded in 1959. The school has evolved into a full PK-12 school that celebrated its first graduating class in the year 2000. In its over fifty year history, AISR has proven to be an innovator in multi-cultural education with a student body of 200 students, with thirty nationalities represented. The language of instruction at AISR is English, and graduates earn a U.S. High School Diploma. In addition, students may further elect to pursue the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program.
Accreditation and Membership AISR was re-accredited by the New England Association of School and Colleges and European Council of International Schools (ECIS) in 2010. AISR earned the distinction of becoming the first school in the Netherlands to receive accreditation from ECIS in 1982. AISR is also part of the International Educational Center, the first joint effort between Japan and the United States in a European setting. AISR is an IB World School.
Faculty There are forty-two professional educators on staff, representing eight countries. Approximately, 45% percent are U.S. citizens.

Curriculum The educational program in the high school is that of a traditional U.S. college preparatory curriculum. The International Baccalaureate Diploma was instituted in 1999.
Sports & Other Activities AISR is a member of Northwest European Council of International Schools (NECIS). Varsity sports teams for boys and girls include basketball, soccer, softball, swimming, track & field, and volleyball. AISR also supports programs in the performing arts, student publications, community service, Global Issues Network, Model UN, Student Council, and honor societies.
Graduation - Diploma Requirements
High School Diploma = 24 credits (1 credit = 1 year of course work, 3 or 4 days/week in a block schedule). A minimum of 7 credits (out of 8 total) are required per year. The distribution requirements as follows: English 4; Mathematics 3; Social Studies 3; Science 3; World Language 3; Technology 1; Physical Education 1; Health 0.5. Additional credits (totaling 5.5 credits) may come from the Arts as well as from choosing academic electives, which is highly encouraged. In addition, all students in grades 11-12 are required to complete 100 - 150 hours of community service activities. Grading, Ranking, and G.P.A Grades earned at other schools are not included in the calculation of the AISR GPA. Students are not ranked because of small classes and the dissimilarity of the various programs and grading systems from previous schools attended.
